The average amount of time it takes to send a text message is around five seconds.

That’s a long time, and certainly a lot of distance when you’re moving at high-speed.

If you send that message whilst driving at 55mph (Around 90 KM/h), you will have passed the length of an American Football field without looking at the road.

That’s 120 yards… Or 109.1 metres…

…Or enough time to pass through a stop sign without noticing cross-traffic.
