Statistics show that women with pets stay longer in violent situations because they fear for their pets and what will happen if they leave without them.
Now, a major grant from PetSmart Charities of Canada has allowed Anova’s Clarke Road facility in London to become pet friendly. That now means those identifying as women can bring their pets with them when they are fleeing gender based violence and at-risk situation.
The $22,000 has been used to upgrade accommodations and to build a dog run.
The agency says its location on Wellington Street will remain pet free to accommodate those with allergies.
