A dangerous and disruptive trend seen mainly in the U.S. has made its way to our area.
St. Thomas police say it is investigating 2 cases of “swatting” from earlier today.
“Swatting” is the practice of calling in a false emergency in an attempt to generate a large police presence.
Early this morning, St. Thomas police were told a family was being held hostage in a city. Officers arrived at the address to find the unknowing family asleep.
Then, officials at Arthur Voaden Seconday School were called and told there was a man with a weapon inside the school. The school activated a code red, called police who were unable to locate a suspect.
The investigations into both incidents proved no threat ever existed.
Police are actively trying to identify the caller.
