The Killers paid tribute to one of their biggest influences this past weekend, covering Tom Petty at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ceremony.

The band was on hand to induct the Cars into the Hall of Fame, but they also covered Petty’s “American Girl” and “Free Fallin'”. Watch below.

While working on their 2012 album Battle Born, drummer Ronnie Vannucci, Jr. told Fuse, “The Petty flavor is in us. It might have an ingredient or two [in our sound].”

Bon Jovi, Dire Straights, the Moody Blues and Nina Simone were also inducted at this year’s ceremony.
