Well, after a few days of rain across the city, things aren’t going well.   Wonderland is closed today at Riverside and Harris Park is pretty much submerged!   Here is the latest from the City Of London:

City of London

The city continues to experience increased water levels as a result of heavy rains and melting snow. It’s expected that water levels will remain high, which means there will be ongoing road closures through today and potentially into later this week.

Currently, the following roads are closed as a result of flooding:

·       Riverside Drive between Wharncliffe Road and Woodward Avenue

·       Wonderland Road, between Springbank and Riverside Drive

·       Windermere Road between Doon Drive and Adelaide Street North

·       Empress Avenue between Argyle Street and Blackfriars Street

·       Walnut Street, Cavendish Crescent and Wyatt Street

·       Hamilton Road between Commissioners and Clarke Roads

·       Dingman Road between Old Victoria and Highbury Roads

·       Westminster Road east of Wonderland Road

Residents should travel with caution and keep in mind that these road closures will affect their drive home at the end of the day, and potentially into later this week. All road closure information can be found at apps.london.ca/RightOfWay/. As temperatures drop over the next 24 hours, road conditions may also become slippery as water on the roadways may turn to ice.

High water levels have also impacted the City’s Wastewater Treatment Plants, causing some overflow. Because of the high volumes of water passing through the plant, however, the water is being partially treated before it flows into the Thames River. These flows will be significantly diluted by the large flows currently being experienced in the Thames River. These overflows are primarily rainwater and will have a minimal impact on water quality in the Thames River. As is common practice, the City reports all overflows to the province.

The City has received limited reports of basements flooding. Should basement flooding occur, please visit: Tips to Minimize Flood Damage. The City will continue to monitor the situation and assess the impact of the high water levels, as well as any lingering impacts on infrastructure.

As rain continues, residents are being asked to stay clear of parklands along both sides of the Thames River, as well as to avoid any natural water bodies and stormwater ponds as these waters could be dangerous.

The City of London has work crews addressing flooding-related issues. Residents can make service calls about a basement or yard flooding by calling the City at 519-661-4570 between 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., or call 519-661-4965 after hours, 24/7.
