The lead singer of Soundgarden and Audioslave, Chris Cornell – has passed away at the age of 52, according to his representative. He had just performed Wednesday Night at the Fox Theatre in Detroit before his ‘unexpected and sudden’ death.

The cause of death is currently unknown; the family is asking for privacy while they work with a medical examiner.

Born and raised in Seattle, Washington, Chris Cornell is credited with starting the grunge movement, forming Soundgarden alongside guitarist Kim Thyail and bassist Hiro Yamamoto in 1984.
